After sooo much anticipation, spring is finally here and I can’t get enough! I’m basking in the sunshine, dusting off my dresses, and trying to get some color on these blindingly pale legs of mine.
One consequence of warmer weather is that my rings have started fitting tighter than they did a few months ago.
Did you know that things like temperature and what you’ve eaten that day can affect how rings will fit? And if you’re adding to your collection, knowing this can help you shop for the right size.
Figuring Out Your Ring Size
Get yourself professionally sized by a jeweler. Stop into your local jewelry store for a sizing, or swing by one of my upcoming markets and I’ll happily do it for you. We've got special tools and the know-how to figure out what ring size will fit best.
Use one of these handy ring sizing gauges by tightening it like a mini belt around your finger to find an accurate size. They're infinitely re-usable, too — find each finger's size and share the gauge with a friend when you’re done.
The least scientific way is to print this guide at actual size (no scaling!) and put a ring you already have over the printed sizes. When the inside diameters match up you'll know you've found the right size. This one is the most open to error, so I highly recommend trying the above options first.
Things to Keep in Mind
Rings with wider bands can fit 1/4 to 1/2 size tighter because of how much space they take up. Try them on in person if you can or pick a ring that’s 1/4 -1/2 size larger.
Fluctuating temperatures and salty snacks (mmmm…) will make things fit tighter, too. If you buy rings this spring, make sure there’s a little more room for when the temperatures get even warmer. Also make sure that when winter rolls around again those rings won’t be sliding off your fingers.
Extra Bonus Points
Write down all your sizes on a piece of paper and take a photo of it to keep on your phone. Include the photo in a note on your phone so that you can find it fast when you're out shopping.
I’ve been having maybe *too* much fun making new rings, many of which can be made to order in almost any size. Knowing your size ahead of time takes out a lot of the guesswork and means you can more confidently pick out a ring you’ll love wearing.
